10 Kid-Friendly YouTube Channels to Watch with Your Family

Kirsten | April 16, 2023 | Updated April 23, 2023

A lot of good content has been coming out recently.  Everyone’s been hyped for the Super Mario movie, which I haven’t seen yet.  My bro and I really want to.  The Little Mermaid’s also out now, I think.  Ursula is my favorite Disney villain, so I’m excited to see if they did her justice.  If they didn’t, I might have to boycott Disney.  :[  I’ve already been disappointed in Mulan because (SPOILERS!) they didn’t have Mushu.

Anyway, I've been meaning to make this post for a while now.  I've recommended a bunch of kid-friendly videos, but I haven't done a post on kid-friendly YouTube channels yet!  If we ignore my 10 Kid-Friendly Gaming Channels You Can Still Enjoy as a Teen (or Adult) and the rest in that series, that is.  I thought a post about generally entertaining YouTube channels would be good for people not into a niche like gaming or anime, so that's what this post is for.

#1 Way Nation

This YouTube channel produces content in the style of a variety show.  Its videos include song guessing games, Bible trivia, and street interviews.  What I love about Way Nation is that it has lots of content involving Christian artists like TobyMac and For King & Country.  I feel like Christian artists aren’t as public as a lot of celebrities, so it’s interesting to see them on this channel.

#2 Savanah Moss

This channel is quite kid-friendly, it has no swearing or suggestive content (although the profile image for it isn't the most kid-friendly right now :| ).  That being said, its most popular videos are "fever dream videos" that play out in the second person point of view with plots that are bizarre and unpredictable.  The settings are typically spooky, abandoned parks and the like.  Some kids would definitely find this type of content scary.  I think a lot of older kids would find it intriguing like I do.

#3 Oven Kid

If you or your loved one likes music, memes, or both, then this is the channel for you.  Oven Kid is the archive of the viral meme that amassed over 39 million views.  Need I say more?

#4 NewsFunnies

I've already mentioned in 10 of My Favorite Family-Friendly YouTube Videos that watching funny news clips with my family has become a pastime.  If you’re looking for a unique family-friendly activity to try, this channel's got you covered.

#5 OwlKitty

OwlKitty puts out videos of movie scenes edited to include a cat in them.  If that doesn't sound great for all ages, I don’t know what will.  Actually though, OwlKitty doesn't just insert the kitty, but does so in a way that adds humor to the scenes that even older people will appreciate.  My only comment is that some of the videos use scenes from movies that are not as kid-friendly (for example, in Top Gun: Maverick there was some swearing).

#6 Meme Planet

This channel produces compilations of actually clean memes.  My siblings and cousins (and I) like to watch memes together, and this channel allows us to do so without having to leap to skip parts of the videos (or risk traumatizing nine-year-olds).  I don’t know how kid-friendly meme humor is, but this is the closest we'll ever get.  It's got no swearing or suggestive content.

#7 CalebCity

CalebCity needs to share his creative juices with the rest of us.  At the very least, he could bottle them up and sell them for a fair price.  All of his videos are entertaining, original, and clean.  He does often reference violence (making jokes about duels or zombies), so his dark humor, while not graphic, may not be suitable for younger children.  I guess it would depend on how dark the kid’s family is.

#8 Dude Perfect

Of course, we cannot neglect to mention Dude Perfect, a bunch of dudes who like making ridiculous trick shots.  Their channel has expanded well beyond that at this point, but that's it at its core.  What I love about Dude Perfect is that it’s got a lot of content that's run like a cable TV show, so it's in a format that is appealing to the family as a whole.  In my experience, my parents can't always handle the chaos that is YouTube editing.  Also, of course, I love that Dude Perfect is super kid-friendly.

#9 BibleProject

This channel is all about the Bible, so it does include some of the stories that are suggestive or violent.  The BibleProject is a channel that talks about the Bible's context and culture in a way that is interesting and easy to understand for the average person.  My friends and I loved to watch this channel in middle school.  Not every video is appropriate for little kids, but most of them are (if you're cool with your kid knowing Bible stories like Cain and Abel).  BibleProject's target audience is young adults because they use big words and talk about abstract topics, but I know kids who enjoy them, nonetheless.

#10 Ryan Trahan

Ryan Trahan is one of the only YouTubers who uses what I think of as the "classic YouTube video editing style" and who is still tolerated by my parents.  Ryan Trahan is interesting because we get to learn about things like what it would be like to survive on a penny and what it would be like to have the world’s loneliest job on his channel.  This channel isn’t related to myths, but in the way that Ryan Trahan goes out and tries crazy stuff we usually only hear about, he’s a lot like MythBusters.  If you like to watch MythBusters with your family, then you’ll probably like to watch Ryan Trahan with your family too.  Some of his videos contain mild swearing but a lot of them are completely clean, it’s kind of hit-or-miss (but my bro thinks the newer ones are progressively cleaner).

As I was creating this post, I recalled a whole lot more entertaining and family-friendly YouTube channels, so there is likely to be a part two in the foreseeable future.  Also, though, my life is hectic and I have no idea how I’ve managed to post this much this school year.  I’m getting a job this summer, so it’s likely the post schedule’s going to be sporadic still.  What should my goal be?  I’m thinking: four posts between now and September, but y’all can feel free to comment/message your opinions.
