10 Clean Kpop-Themed Activities to Try Over the Summer

Kirsten | Posted May 29, 2022 | Updated May 30, 2022

Y'all, I finally figured out how to embed, and it has changed my life! I might try some other new features in future posts, because this is the best. Like, on Google Sites you can create an image carousel! I want to try this, but I haven't found an excuse to yet:)

Update: I have found an excuse to create an image carousel! I reformatted the Home page and added one!

Well, 10 Kpop-themed activities to try now that summer is here (for some of us--my Thai friends are just starting the school year :P). I tried to go for a variety of activities so let me know if I managed to include some you liked. I have a few more ideas so I could make a second post if it’s requested. For those of you who like anime/manga, I think I'll make a similar post to this one that's anime-themed. d(^,^ )

#1 Kpop-Themed Art

Drawing is great for Kpop fans because Kpop is so aesthetic, and there are so many aspects of it that could inspire different pieces. I like drawing but I’ve always been too intimidated to draw any kpop-inspired pieces. Except for the time I snuck a Seventeen reference into my art class sketchbook (lol).

Beyond drawing, there are a ton of other ways to artistically express your love of Kpop. You could paint, or color, or even create sculptures. You know what I want to see? Someone remaking famous statues to look like BTS. I would legit pay to go to a museum and see that. Someone please do this.

I included some video tutorials, art, coloring pages, etc. as examples in case you didn’t know where to start, but you can feel free to look up your own stuff--or just draw from scratch (ooh, exciting!).

#2 Kpop Crafts

This is different because I consider arts & crafts separate. Why else would there be a phrase “arts & crafts” when there could simply be the phrase “art?” Besides, my previous suggestion is more of finding a creative outlet. This suggestion involves creating something that can be used and not just looked at.

For those of you who like knitting, I want to see some Kpop sweaters. Let’s make it happen. For those of you who like messing with cardboard, let’s make some knock-off light sticks. Cheap is the way to go, my friends. For those of you who like cutting up paper-I don’t know- make one of those chains of kids holding hands, but go pro-level and make the kids look like Twice. I love Twice… (and obviously, if you’re into other crafts, surprise me! I, myself, am not a craft-y person. I apologize.)

Y’all, the crafts in this video look so cool to me. ✨ You might be mad at me for recommending a back-to-school video right when school’s getting out, but da-ang. I really wanna make some of those crafts. If I do, I'll post an update. 0v0

#3 Learn the Lyrics of a Kpop Song

These Songs Are Easier to Learn because They're Slower

I’m gonna be honest, at some point people will probably make fun of you if you are a Kpop fan but cannot sing along to your favorite songs. I don’t like being laughed at, so I am in favor of this activity. There are tons of lyric videos out there, so learning shouldn’t be too hard. I believe in you. (๑ ˃̵ᴗ˂̵ )و It would be a bit hard to learn the song without at least knowing the Korean alphabet, though. This kind of leads up to another (very difficult) suggestion I have…

#4 Learn Korean (or another language)

I would suggest that if you’re a hardcore Kpop fan, you at least learn the Korean alphabet. The reason I’m making this suggestion is that it will be more accurate than reading phonetics and help you a lot in learning Korean words (like gir vs. 길). Also, the Korean alphabet is extremely easy to learn. One of my Korean friends told me a story about how 한글 (the Korean alphabet) was invented by a king who wanted even the dumbest person to be able to learn to write in a week.

If you really like learning languages, or Korean specifically, then it would be worthwhile to actually learn the language as a whole. Exposing it to yourself regularly through Kpop will give you an advantage over other people.

If you guys want, I could do a post with advice on learning Korean even though that’s not the type of content I typically post. There’s a ton of material about learning Korean on the internet already, so you really wouldn’t need it (but if you wanted it…).

And for those of you who already speak Korean, you could learn a different language your favorite Kpop singers speak. A lot of Kpop stars speak Japanese, Chinese, and Thai -to name a few- and it would be good to understand those languages too, since Kpop groups will makes songs in those languages or even have full comebacks in countries like Japan.

#5 Watch a Kpop Show

I Know They're Both Seventeen, But They're Some of My Favorite Variety Show Episodes

There are a ton of Kpop variety and survival shows out there. I like watching ones of my favorite groups because I feel like it helps me understand them better. Variety shows can be really entertaining and relaxing to watch, too. The ones I enjoy the most are Run BTS, Treasure Map, and Going Seventeen. A lot of variety shows are on YouTube, although some can be found on V-live.

My favorite survival shows are definitely Road to Kingdom and Kingdom (warning for these shows: some occasional shirtless-ness and suggestive dancing o.o), which were exciting because a bunch of groups interacted with each other (!!). Also, they were hilarious, which is less common on the high-stress competition shows. Right now, the second season of Queendom is out and I’ve been thinking of watching it since it's what everyone on the internet’s been talking about.

#6 Learn a Kpop Dance

This one is great because it involves exercise (yay!). Dance is such an iconic part of Kpop, so it feels wrong to not at least know some moves. That’s my opinion at least, similar to the case of not knowing the lyrics to at least some songs. Besides, it’s so fun to be able to dance along like a pro when your favorite group is playing.

I had to learn a dance for P.E. so I chose “Nonstop” by Oh My Girls and it is actually not the hardest to learn. Don’t get me wrong--it’s challenging, but probably one of the easier Kpop dances to learn. I haven’t learned BTS’s “Permission to Dance,” but I’ve heard that one’s also an easier one to learn. I want to try learning “Dynamite” (by BTS) because that one’s groovy. :D

#7 Kpop Trivia Games (Online)

If you want to test your knowledge as a fan (or self-proclaimed expert, in my case), then this is a great activity to try. You don’t even have to do it alone, I do stuff like this with my friends all the time when we’re bored. Obviously, the best effect of playing these games is that you will become the Kpop master. I actually made my own trivia game for my family, which I think I’ll post some time in the future. Look forward to it. ;)

#8 Read Kpop Manhwas on Webtoon

I’m sorry but I love comics so I had to include this. I haven’t actually read any of the manhwas myself, except for some of Save Me. (Am I a bad clean content recommender??? 😞) I will read them and update this, I swear. I just didn’t want to get sucked in during Finals.

What I do know is that Save Me deals with some mature themes so I'd rate it at least 13+.

Anyway, so many groups have been releasing manhwas recently, which is super exciting! If you’re a fan of TXT, Enhypen, or BTS, then you should definitely check these out!

#9 Cook Korean Food

[Warning: One Swear Word]

I know this one is less related to Kpop, but hear me out. Food is amazing, and now you can try the same food your favorite performers eat. You’ll be able to understand them better now when they talk about food, and have your own opinions about which foods are good and which should have never been invented. Cooking is a great skill to practice, too. Almost everyone’s gotta cook at some point in their lives. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[Warning: Slight Swearing]

#10 Watch Dramas/Movies Starring Kpop Singers

If you like watching shows, especially if you like watching k-dramas, then you should try this. It’s a great chance to see Kpop stars doing something new and support them. A lot of Kpop singers are actually amazing as k-drama actors--you will be impressed, I swear.

I gotta admit though, I don’t know many clean k-dramas starring Kpop artists off the top of my head. The main one that comes to mind is “Extraordinary You” (starring Rowoon from SF9 and Naeun from April). It’s rated 13+ for swearing, and minimal violence/kissing. I like it because it’s cute and fairly clean. They don’t swear much in Korean, but the English subtitles translate what they say as swearing which is the main issue. Other k-dramas I’ve seen are “Hotel del Luna” (starring IU, Sulli from f(x), and P.O from Block B) and “Uncanny Counter” starring Sejeong. They’re both good, but 16+ because they’re scary. I’ll try to watch more k-dramas with Kpop stars, guys. ( ˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥ )

This was my favorite post to write so far! My next post will probably be about 10 Clean Webtoons, for those of you into comics. \(ovo\ ) I'd really like to do one related to my family, too (like one of my siblings recommending something, maybe). I want to keep up my weekly posting schedule, guys, but my family's going to be moving to the U.S. (o.o;) I'll do my best, still. (๑ >_< If you want more Kpop related content, check out the Kpop section of my blog.
